The weather was perfect at the Karl Bröcker Foundation’s summer party on the beautiful grounds of Atelier T8 in Dedinghausen: the sun was shining brightly with the 200 or so guests – children and young people with disabilities, their relatives and friends! And yet some of the young participants were standing with bare feet on broken glass … Fakirs in Dedinghausen?
The circus was here! The Cologne Spielecircus turned the world upside down – that was the motto of the day. In the colorful circus tent, the young artists showed what the professionals had taught them – in real circus costumes, of course. For example, how to walk barefoot over broken glass. The spectators were stunned. Clowns told play-along stories until the audience’s faces glowed with fun and excitement just as much as the knobbly red clown noses. Little artists dared to create a human pyramid, balancing on free-standing ladders, juggling, dancing, singing and even jumping over fire torches! All under the loving guidance of the Spielcircus performers, of course, who were there for the third time. Even children in wheelchairs dared to do the most amazing things.
Every year, the Karl Bröcker Foundation organizes a summer party for children and young people with disabilities and their families. Always under a new motto. For one unforgettable day, the parties offered everything that goes with a theme party: movement, games, handicrafts, costumes, face painting, adventure and lots of fun. For example in 2018: under the motto “Research and discovery”, the children explored the world and their own senses – and built a real volcano out of wax modelling clay. Explosion included!
In 2017, the summer party took place on the Lippe: “Come aboard” – raft ahoy with water bombs! In 2015, guests experienced a day full of magic at the fairground, with clowns, carousels and fortune tellers. Magician Otti made cuddly toys disappear – only to conjure them right back up again. When the foundation invites young adventurers to “Adventureland”, as it did at the 2014 summer festival, they explore meadows and forests, search for and find treasures, and wheelchair users conquer the high ropes course. Always supported by a team of professional helpers and the DRK, of course. For a carefree day with great experiences, lots of fun – and delicious things to eat and snack on!
