In bright sunshine and summery temperatures, the Karl Bröcker Foundation celebrated this year’s summer party in summer 2024 under the motto “Life is colorful” in close cooperation with the Don Bosco School in Lippstadt, a special school with a focus on mental development. Over 240 guests accepted the invitation – children and young people with disabilities, their relatives and friends.
In keeping with the motto, the day was designed to experience a carefree, happy late summer day together. Each child was given a colorful cap, which not only served as a badge, but also underlined the colorful motto of the festival. The participating children were supervised by educational staff from Seilschaft Arnsberg. The play activities were varied and offered the children the opportunity to play with colors, which were later needed for the creative Picasso project “Life is colorful”. The main focus was on a sense of community and teamwork.
Another highlight was a craft activity where the children were able to design their own hobbyhorses. Unique works of art were created with great enthusiasm and creativity. Finally, all the children combined the colors they had created together to produce a complete work of art, which was unveiled at the end of the joint summer festival.
Almost every year, the Karl Bröcker Foundation organizes a summer party for children and young people with disabilities and their families. Always under a new motto. For one unforgettable day, the parties offered everything that goes with a theme party: movement, games, handicrafts, costumes, face painting, adventure and lots of fun. The circus was there in 2019, for example. On the beautiful grounds of Atelier T8 in Dedinghausen, the Kölner Spielecircus turned the world upside down – that was the motto of the day. In the colorful circus tent, the young artists showed what the professionals had taught them – in real circus costumes, of course. And in 2018, under the motto “Research and discovery”, the children explored the world and their own senses – and built a real volcano out of wax modelling clay. Explosion included! In 2017, the summer party took place on the Lippe: “Come aboard” – raft ahoy with water bombs! In 2015, guests experienced a day full of magic at the fairground, with clowns, carousels and fortune tellers. Magician Otti made cuddly toys disappear – only to conjure them right back up again. When the foundation invites young adventurers to “Adventureland”, as it did at the 2014 summer festival, they explore meadows and forests, search for and find treasures, and wheelchair users conquer the high ropes course. Always supported by a team of professional helpers and the DRK, of course. For a carefree day with great experiences, lots of fun – and delicious things to eat and snack on!
