The Sönnern Youth Center is an intensive group for children and young people with severe emotional problems. The causes are often traumatic experiences, abuse or threats, which manifest themselves in behavioral disorders and mental or psychological impairment. At the youth center, young people receive intensive support to help them integrate socially and lead as independent a life as possible.

In a world full of digital media, exercise, nature and communal experiences are particularly important. The youth center has a beautiful, large garden with a sandpit, barbecue facilities and places to retreat – but until now there has been a lack of suitable exercise options such as swings, climbing facilities, slides and similar activities. These motor experiences are particularly valuable for the young people living there.
The desire for suitable play equipment has existed for a long time. But when solutions were discovered, it became clear that financing was a major hurdle. As a small facility financed by nursing rates, the realization initially remained unfulfilled.

With the help of financial support from the Karl Bröcker Foundation, the dream could finally be realized – the new playground equipment was completed in time for the start of summer and has been used with great enthusiasm ever since. The supervisors report that it is nice to see how the children harmonize with each other, support each other and have great fun together. And by the way, digital media disappear from the focus in these moments – in favor of real play, movement and community experiences.
