The idea of “HerzKinder klettern” was developed by the Elterninitiative herzkranker Kinder, Köln e. V. together with the association Hoch Hinaus – Klettern als Therapie e. V. The aim was to provide individual support based on the children’s different physical and mental abilities.
The children should accept and master challenges in the group, take on responsibility and experience confidence, and have fun moving as a team.
Under the guidance of the therapists from “Hoch-Hinaus Klettern als Therapie e.V.”, the kids learn climbing and safety techniques.
In addition to climbing training suitable for children, the focus is on sports games, coordination exercises and mobility training.
The focus is on enjoying exercise and having fun with new challenges.
And this in turn helps children with heart disease, who often have to sit on the bench in school sports, as individual support is usually not possible in sports lessons at schools and daycare centers.
This is what characterizes the climbing group “HerzKinder klettern”.
The children meet once a week in the climbing factory.
Here, children and young people with a congenital heart defect learn the best way to get up a climbing wall and also how to get down again safely.
Learning climbing techniques is just as important as belaying each other.
Participants learn how to support each other.
They learn to show consideration for each other and to reach the goal together.
And the very special thing about the project is that siblings or a particularly good friend can also climb with you.
