The “Sternstunden” project, funded by the Karl Bröcker Foundation, brought variety to everyday life at the Jacob Grimm School in Soest.
During the project, Ms. Huiskamp – affectionately called “Ms. Flip” by the children – visited the special school with a focus on language once a week and carried out her self-developed yoga exercises with the children in the second year of school attendance.
She quickly won the children’s hearts with her open manner. The “Sternstunden” sessions became a popular time-out that enabled new approaches to learning. These holistic stimuli are particularly valuable for children with language development needs: movement, rhythm and body awareness strengthen them in a natural way – without pressure to perform, but with a lot of joy and self-confidence.
The lessons were also a great enrichment for the teaching staff. The positive atmosphere and the visible well-being of the children speak for themselves. The project has a particularly lasting effect because the exercises can now be continued by the children themselves thanks to the resource cards developed.
