Advice and support center in the Czech Republic (Cheb)

Karo e. V. has been campaigning against forced prostitution, human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children since 1994. The aim of the association is to offer protection and help to children and young people who have experienced psychological, physical or sexual violence.

The Karo e. V. “Maria P.” advice center in Cheb in the Czech Republic serves as a contact point for children and young people from difficult social structures: the family background is desolate, marked by violence, neglect and sexual abuse. Here the children find a safe retreat, food, peace and quiet, space for personal hygiene and interaction in a trusting atmosphere. Space to simply be a child. Here they find reliable contacts with whom they can build trust despite the taboo nature of their problems.

People who listen to them, with whom they can talk about their feelings – this is how social workers find out about violent sexual assaults, which they document and, if possible, pass on to the relevant authorities. And they help: through crisis intervention, further counseling and intensive one-to-one meetings.

The counseling center offers a shelter, provides support in dealing with authorities and filing charges. And it not only helps children, but also their mothers. Various positive leisure activities help children and mothers on their way to a life free of violence: Dance, exercise and relaxation programmes, also with a special sex education focus for physical and emotional stabilization. The Karl Bröcker Foundation covers the personnel costs for this project.
